Nothing, of course, lasts like real stone, but in some home-related applications, it's simply not practical because of the weight factor, but real stone siding can, in many cases, add structural benefits to a property in the way that faux stone does not. Everyone knows about real stone, so what about Faux Stone? Faux Stone is made from Portland cement, and added iron oxide pigments are responsible for the coloration. The Faux products really do look like real stone. Faux stone typically costs less, which accounts for its increasing popularity in residential projects. As a general rule, there are three approaches to consider when you're looking into applying stone siding to your exterior:

• Grouted installation: A relatively even grout line between stones.

• Overgrouted installation: excess grout is used to create a rustic grout line, which replicates the appearance of aged, old-world stonework.

• Dry stack: All of the stones are set flush without grout lines.
